DRAMA

Students will develop confidence and public speaking skills while being introduced to the art of theatre. Movement will be incorporated as well, and each actor will have a chance to shine both individually and within the group. Performance material will be based on activities explored in the Montessori classroom and related to the year long theme.

YoKid! YOGA FOR KIDS

Yoga classes help children foster self-awareness. With greater self-awareness, children can realize their full potential physically, academically, socially, and emotionally. A recent study of the YoKid yoga program revealed improvements in students’ mood and physical fitness levels based on participation in a YoKid yoga class.  Students were less angry, more relaxed, more flexible (physically), and showed improved concentration after completing at least 3 weeks of a YoKid class.

CLAYWORKS

Object of the course is to help children learn techniques for working with clay as they  create works of art that are aesthetically pleasing , practical and reflections of their growing knowledge of their world.  Children develop concentration and fine motor skills as they refine their craft.  The class requires students to follow precise directions yet at the same time allows for creativity so each work of art is unique. Clayworks projects reflect themes that are studied in the class each year.

WRITERS WORKSHOP

This class is for students who are fluent writers yet need to refine skills like spelling, vocabulary, mechanics and are ready to explore a variety of literary styles and genres. Children will have the opportunity to share their writing each week with the class and choose a favorite piece to read at a Poetry Festival/Author's Day in the Spring.

This class is for students who are fluent readers and ready to engage in group discussions of literary classics. Children take on active roles as they lead discussions relating to comprehension, vocabulary and literary styles while developing higher level thinking skills such as making inferences, drawing conclusions, and character analysis.

LITERACY AND
CREATIVE WRITING

Object of the course is to help children learn to express themselves in print beginning with pictures, words,  phrases and finally sentences. Children will participate in group writing as well as individual writing activities.  Phonics, handwriting, and initial mechanics are addressed in a separate tract to develop more conventional spelling that will slowly transfer to creative writing  as children learn to use print to express their thoughts and ideas at an early age.  Children will have the opportunity to share their writing each week with the class and choose a favorite piece to read at a Poetry Festival/Author's Day in the Spring.
